Syd Barrett's Death

On this day 14 years ago, the founder and former member of Pink Floyd, one of the most influential psychedelics and progressive rock bands, passed away. Syd Barrett was born in Cambridge, England, and founded Pink Floyd there, between the years 1965-1966 with Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright while studying architecture. Before that, he was in a local cover band called Geof and the Mottoes, covering the bands he liked such as the Beatles. His musical interest included jazz and blues aside from psychedelic music, which can be seen all over the songs he wrote and played on. While gaining popularity on the underground music scene in London, Syd's addiction to LSD and acid had gone further and this addiction's effects were noticeable during his stage performances. While Syd's unresistable attitude was becoming unbearable, the other members of the band added Syd's childhood friend David Gilmour to the band. In March 1968, Syd was kicked out of the band. After releasing 2 solo albums with the help of his former bandmates, Syd was out of the music scene forever. He spent the rest of his life painting and seldomly speaking to others. He died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 60.
