Ibeyi
Ibeyi is an R&B duo blending the sounds of African, French and Cuban heritage in a modern fashions. The duo consists of twins Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz, both singing in English, French, Spanish, and interestingly, Yoruba (a native Nigerian language). The name Ibeyi translates to "twins" in Yoruba.
Their careers started when they were signed to a record label at 19 years old. Their father was percussionist Angá Diaz, a member of the Buena Vista Social Club, and their mother is singer Maya Dagnino. Their musicality is thus well-connected to their family and heritage. The self-titled debut album, for example, is mostly about their deceased father and older sister. Valé is a lullaby for their niece, Yanira is completely about their sister, and their father's influence is everywhere on the record.
The twins have gone through life experiencing things that are too much for just 2 people. However, blending all these experiences outputs a beautiful record that takes you around the world to places and feelings you have never been before.
