How the Name of "The Division Bell" Came to Be

The Division Bell was the second album Pink Floyd made after Roger Waters’ departure from the band, and the last album featuring Richard Wright before his death in 2008. A few names were being considered for the title of the album, including “Down to Earth” and “Pow Wow”

At dinner one night, Douglas Adams—the renowned author famous for his series The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy— offered to suggest a better name (The Divison Bell, of course!) for Pink Floyd’s new album, under the condition that Pink Floyd would donate to Douglas Adams’ charity of choice; Environmental Investigation Agency.

It is also worth to mention that David Gilmour and Douglas Adams were good friends, and Adams even played with Pink Floyd during the Division Bell Tour on March 11, 1994, his 42nd birthday.
