Alt Rock Anthem: "Do I Wanna Know?" (2013) by Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys' hit song, "Do I Wanna Know?", was released as the second single from the band's fifth studio album, AM, on 18 June 2013. It is definitely a song that we all know in some way or another. The track was playing everywhere when it was first released. It peaked at number 11 in the UK Singles Chart and was the first Arctic Monkeys song to have entered the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, climbing up to number 70 in March 2014. It received a 3x Platinum certification in the UK. In an interview with Q magazine, the frontman of the band Alex Turner said that the idea they had for D.I.W.K was “where you take the compositional perspective of an R&B producer and apply that to a four-piece rock’n’roll band”. Matt Helders' simple drum pattern and the hypnotic guitar riff played by Turner's 12-string Vox guitar are more than enough to give the mood of a confused lover. The riff repeats over and over as the lover questions the strength of their relationship even more. But they aren't sure whether they want to know the answer to their questions. "Do I Wanna Know If this feelin' flows both ways?" With its relatability, atmosphere, and popularity "Do I Wanna Know" certainly made a mark on contemporary rock music.
